It's Been Almost a Year

I remember how and
Where I first met you
We chatted on the phone
We talked about the world

And then we became friends
It seemed so easy and natural
We laughed and made our plans
We cried when things were bad

The years went by between us
Our words were always near
We knew no better friendship
That only we could share

But it's been almost a year since you've travelled on
As I look through these photos of you smiling
And yet my heart's still broken now that you're gone
My head can't forget the pain that
I'll never see you again
Never again…

I am reminded that time heals
I am told things will get better
But I can't see those pages
Written in that story's tale

It's late and the dim firelight
Dances without any care
I don't want to go to sleep
I know my dreams can't come true

Maybe you were thinking of me
