the vine sapling

Sanjay Kumbkarni 1963 (Dhariwal)

one day i saw
a vine sapling
sprouting
in my garden
of who i was the warden...
it grew and curled
and ever so slowly climbed
not as much i wanted in my mind...
one day i saw
it going west
frankly, i wanted east...
for that's where begins the feast.
well i did that i did that day
tied a string heading east.
today,
when i am about to die
i want a moment to buy.
in the lull before the storm, i think
west would've been wise.
guess, i lost that prize.

at the end of the day,
the vine sapling
will surely cling...
while history cries
on a strained sling...
