Why?

Kammy Miller 1989 (California)

I swore never again,
I built my walls so high.
No one was getting in.
Go ahead...
Let them try.
My defenses were strong,
No one stood a chance.
Until he came along,
He broke through with just a glance.
My walls couldn't hold,
It was like they didn't exist.
My defenses stopped cold.
What could I have missed?
In my head I'm screaming,
"Fight back! Don't let him in!"
He smiles & says my name so soft.
It's over,
the war is lost.
A single kiss is all it took,
I never had a chance.
I knew he was too perfect,
Just too damn good to be true.
He made falling feel like flying,
But I was sinking,
Now I'm dying.
I know he's not to blame.
It's my fault,
I fed the flame.
I thought I saw something,
Deep inside those gorgeous eyes.
I fell so hard,
I fell so fast.
Stupid girl,
It never lasts.
There's no such thing as fairy tales,
I'm no princess,
Not even close.
The rain begins to fall,
Lightning strikes & thunder roars.
This is what I get for wanting more.
My walls were so high,
My defenses so strong.
How did this happen,
Where did I go wrong?
Now I lay here bleeding,
Darkness creeping in.
How could I be so stupid?
How was I so blind?
Now all I can do is wonder...
Why?

Kammy Miller

I'm a 32 year old single mama of 3 rambunctious boys. I was born in California, grew up in Indiana & now I live in Tennessee. As a kid I would write poems, songs & even stories. I have just recently gotten back in to writing & hope to turn it into something more than just a hobby. more…
