Deep Wounds

The promise of tomorrow
became a fancy of today
an illusion, dissolving
into thin air before my very eyes
the trace of a memory
still lingered on
clinging to my mind

I try to forget but those
claws tear, talons slice
leaving gaping gashes
as I rip it brutally
from its hiding place
leaving wounds forever more

those scars run so deep
and the memories still remain
winding deeper into my mind
I pull harder dragging those
dark memories thread by thread
but they don’t come quietly
shredding my thoughts
splintering my soul

A trace left behind
leaves me shaken
I feel freer somehow, as though
the dark shadow has been
banished, conquered
finally defeated

better memories fill my mind
happiness and laughter
love and light
flooding in , filling me
with wonder

those darker memories
just a shadow
still there buried deep
if I close my eyes
i see them at the
edges of my mind
wisps in the darkness
locked behind a door
