The cat eyes

Rasmus Berggren 2002 (Linkoping)

I met this man
I met this man in a street corner
In a street corner, filled with boxes and a retching smell
A retching smell of rotten fish and spoiled milk
The cats loved it
I guess that was why the man staid there
I never understood it
But we looked at each other
His was blue, and I knew that once upon a time, they had been clear
Now they were no more than foggy window, into an emptiness
He might have not comprehended it
What does a man like that see when he stares into my eyes
Is the neurons even firing, is the occipital lobe even lighting up when he looks ?
I never knew, but he stared at me when I walked by, and his cats too
With their bright eyes
