DOWNTOWN DRIFTER

DOWNTOWN DRIFTER
            Thursday, August 04, 2020

I am a down town drifter loose on the open road
Like uptown champ I too possess an aerie load
Juggling life’s circus struggling how to compete
It hits the fan daily there’s always some to greet.

I’m a down town drifter on heart break street
Struggling with life’s illusions and those I meet
Live’n amongst dreamers seeking fortune or fame
Can’t settle for disorder role playing that ole game

One ordeal was to sing with the Sydney street choir
Where it’s all stab in the back then burn in that fire
Only place acceptable where they sing out of tune
Founded by Jonathon Welsh sold em’ off too soon

Welsh went off to Melbourne to fire up Hard Knocks
Lining well his belly, profits come in chock a block
Deserted Sydney street choir for riches with ABC
Greed and profit first ole mate for all fools to see

I’m down town drifter loose upon the uptown beat
Didn’t make it to fame only another illusive treat
Settled for disorder and met up with use and abuse
Every castle visited it’s the same so what’s the use

I am a down town drifter loose on the open road
Like uptown champ I too possess an aerie load
Juggling life’s circus struggling how to compete
It hits the fan daily there’s always some to greet.
