Sacred Ways

Open plains prospecting gains
chief on his horse plotting a course
bareback rider animals broken
early morning peace pipe token
bows and arrows for weapons sake
melanoma skin toning sunning bake
horses hide-Indian pride-prairie glide
remarkable lives horsepower drives
sacred ways-children's plays-overcast days
American west, tribes obsessed
scouts about on a mission
windy sound you barely listen
painters artwork warring faces
loosely held reigns in hand embraces
moccasin leather protecting feet
Europeans they'll never meet
sedentary stillness, outlook west
migratory feather headed tribal quest
horse shoes gripping, dirt ripping
and the speed passing trees clipping
