Analysis of Unhinged
Leo Long 1986 (Durban)
Do Not Enter
Yet curiosity picks at the rusty locks
Encasing that eldritch tomb
Where decaying love lays strewn
Creak and crack it stands ajar
Peering I rake the desolate void
Where mouldy memories hang from hooks
And whimpering joy peeps from crannies and crooks
Each wary step raises moon dust
A swirling black ballerina
Engulfing gladness in gloom
Soot and ashes covering the room
Feelings fade in tattered scrapbooks
Delight in a pile is shrivelled and torn
A blackened mirror shudders to bare
The gnarled image now I wear
Gravely I turn to leave this wretched place
Silently mocked by misery and woe
In the shadowy haze I stop and look around
Searching for sanity in the Lost-and-Found
