Analysis of Padma

Never concerned that my birth was not celebrated,
But shattered when I understood that I was being hated.
Never felt envious of my brother whose demands were fulfilled,
But disheartened when my dreams were ignored.

Supposed life would change after my marriage,
But the relations appeared like a dreadful cage.
Never regretted that I didn’t give birth to a son,
But feel depressed when my daughter speaks to me only if there’s a reason.

Never troubled when I was admitted to an old age home,
But dejected when I saw a lot like me who are left alone.
Never scared with the comorbidities that I carry,
But the way society treats the elderly makes me worry.

Never able to figure out the purpose of my birth,
I suppose I am of some worth.
I may or may not be heard,
But I wish things get changed.
