Analysis of The Wisp Of The Dell - Free Verse.
As I walked home one summer's night
I'd been out for a spell
I sauntered down the woodland path
Winding through the dell
As twilight went and darkness loomed
The moon was veiled and soft
The evening air was warm and still
And a barn owl flew aloft
Suddenly I felt the touch of a cold and
Chilling breeze
Heading deep into the woods
And stirring through the trees
Shuddering I carried on down into the dell
Was that a flickering light ahead
I could not really tell
Curiously I hastened pace but then it disappeared
Then it shone ahead again
Which I thought very weird
It seemed to zigzag jump and bounce
Then spin just like a top
Beckoning me on and on It didn't want to stop
I felt I'd walked for hour's
But I'd trod this path for year's
Then suddenly the light was gone
This added to my fear's
I could have been a stranger
In these woods I knew so well
As night-times murky darkness turned
Heaven into hell
I didn't know which way to go
Blinded by the night
But reappearing just ahead
That strange and dancing light
Enchanted by its presence I reached out in despair
Stumbling over sodden ground
Not knowing really where
Suddenly the moon unmasked
And stars peeped through the mist
That very night
I'm sure that I from heavens light was kissed
For I was in the willow bog
Where many lost their way
Unknowingly to their bitter end
Their very lives they'd pay
It spun and danced this wisp of light
It knew it had me taunted
And from that very night till now
By that I have been haunted.
