Analysis of The Median

“As the 2nd plane hit, I fell to my knees,
And prayed for my life, “God help me please.”
The other started screaming as they ran out the door,
I wished that these terrorists didn’t exist any more.

The things that I saw will linger forever,
The horrific memories will leave me: never.
My co-worker grabbed me and pulled me along
We ran for the stairwell within the throng.

The hallway was smoky and hard to see
Thankfully Ryan held on to me.
We journeyed downward from floor 65
The multitudes of people buzzed like a beehive.

Onward we traveled- on our hopeful quest
If we didn’t make it, we had tried our best.
Downward and downward as the minutes flew
I hoped that my kids had heard a final ‘I love you’.

In vain we gave effort to find the end
The end of the journey: to let the world mend.
I heard a snap as the building buckled and fell
“Goodbye to the world: I wish thee well.”
I said a final prayer for those who got out
Even for the people who brought on this terror stricken bout.

I started to fall and knew it must end’
And asked myself why my life was condemned.
I had done nothing to cause this horrific act
I was serenely innocent, let that be a fact.

“And so,” Justin said as he awoke from his trance.
“We all now realize life is a game of chance.
Peace to the lost and the ones left
Especially to you: Margaret Zeleft.”
