Analysis of The "High Tea" Haiku
"The Empress" -- appointed to impress ....
the clockwork-protocol-pride of Victoria, B.C.
.... 4pm each afternoon: "High Tea"
Note:
Traditional British "High Tea" and "Afternoon Tea" have
become essentially interchangeable terms over the passage of years, however, in earlier times "Afternoon Tea" was served at 4 pm,
and typically consisted of tea, sandwiches, cake, and/or scones, etc., as a daily snack-time ritual, whereas "High Tea" was distinctly different in that it was commonly associated with a larger, more filling meal generally served in the early evening. In modern times, "High Tea" is often used as a substitute expression of "Afternoon Tea", and the word "Supper" has become the more commonly-used terminology for describing the evening meal in-place of the old world term of "High Tea" .... thus certain variations exisit and are permitted within the system of British protocol.
