Analysis of Regret

For years and years,
I've held you close,
Your smile, your laugh,
but you I miss the most.

We were young,
and so much in love,
but when it got hard,
I gave you a shove.

We shared so much,
both good and bad,
but the bad became worse
and we both became mad.

So one night it happened,
not as I planned.
We parted ways and
from your life, I was banned.

Others have come
and others have gone,
but I always thought,
with you, I belong.

And now time has passed,
there's nothing I can do.
My heart forever broken,
'cause I'll always love you.
