Analysis of Devil Sun
Mornin' Blue as a lightning crack
sugar cane to hell and back
another day chained to my conviction
papa sleeps in a pauper's grave
he was dying and couldn't be saved
forgive me father i was gone to prison
and Long days in the Devil Sun
we can't die til our work's done
beat my brow cover me with ashes
Long days in The Devil Sun
we gon' die when this day's gone
and there'll still be work
piled up to our asses
I sleep and dream but to escape
dusty boots at the end of the way
chisel me a window i can leap from
from long days in the Devil Sun
we can't die til our work's done
beat my brow cover me with ashes
Please no more Devil Sun
we gon' die when this day's done
and there'll still be work piled up to our asses
my buddy darrel he died that day
his freedom only thirty days away
tell his two boys their daddy died in prison
I couldn't weep when that truck went by
took his dead body to his dead wife
and sweat no more under that Devil Sun
long days in the Devil Sun
some of us die when we're too young
beaten down for our bad decisions
long days in the Devil Sun
endless stream of days rolled into one
and there's still work waiting for your asses.
