Analysis of A derry fireside
Oh, the rainfall is akin to
The flush of the sea as I leave
To shop within Dunne’s Stores
At Ballymagroarty.
A Saturday morning soon to
Ending another week as I
Encounter a storm pursuing
Bread, milk, butter, and steak.
The clouds are dark grey
And there’s no wild life in
Sight as I quicken my steps
Past a statue on my right.
And upon entering Dunne’s
I gather what I require prior to
Rushing back to the warmth
Of my home fire.
Yes, an extreme wintry day
But it’s great to be alive
Sharing a lovely meal
Not far from our fireside.
