Analysis of Effective Listening

Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)

Effectively listening.
With undivided attention given.
Is effective for comprehending.
Understanding.
And communicating.
Sharing
Being understood.
Effectively.
Exchanging conversation.
Learning to listen.
Without distracting to interrupt.
What has not been mentioned,
For the purpose to conduct...
One's own topic to discuss.
Expecting more attention to get.
To misunderstand or comprehend,
Why whoever is listening.
Says effectively,
'What in hell has that got to do...
With the topic we agreed to bring up!'

'Well...
You did say,
Life to live has its pits.
And not a bowl of pit less cherries.
When I know where to go,
To buy seedless grapes.
More flavorful than cherries.
Regardless of the pits!'

'I chose to use cherries,
As a depiction to describe...
What life to live is all about.'

'And my preference,
Happens to be seedless grapes.
So what's the big deal?
Both are fruits.
Tomatoes are too!
Yet people think of them to be vegetables.
They are not.
Nor are cucumbers.'

'You would make a good politician!'

'Naw!
I don't have that kind of religious ambition.
And besides,
Most smiling politicians have to declare...
With a swearing to be faithful Christians.
What a hoax on folks that is!'

'I...uh...
Have nothing else to say.'

'That I clearly agree to understand.'
