Analysis of flowers
Lalita Rotte 2009 (Texas)
i will lay softly
and allow my lungs to breathe,
i will dig into my sorrowful chest;
and revel in my melancholy.
i will feel so deeply
allow the gentle flowers to grow,
though i am afraid
weeds will block my airways
and cause my scars to inevitably show.
for then each bruise
will unravel itself to the world
every gash there is to create;
on display for the world to know
grieve into my chest
and dig so deep with unrest
feel the beating of my bloody heart and soul
one last time before death takes its toll.
allow me to burn
so deep in this flame
melt into my fear and doubt
before the peace ever came
death, take me away,
with no mercy;
for any body or presence of mine
forever fit unworthy.
simply leave me to wail
with all my treacheries to slowly unveil
as each sin made starts to travel
along my insides as i surrender this battle
allow myself to lie
in permanent serene,
my body will die slowly,
forsakenly unseen.

About this poem
This poem is about the hardships of life and grief, with an urging and desperate message, and an attempt to showcase an interpretation of despair through rhyme. “grieve into my chest//and dig so deep with unrest//feel the beating of my bloody heart and soul// one last time before death takes its toll.” Is one of the most crucial sections of this piece to showcase these vulnerable and helpless feelings portrayed in this gut wrenching piece.
