Analysis of GET THEE BEHIND ME
Barry Green Jr 1973 (Florida)
GET THEE BEHIND ME
I'm not bound by your rules
Philosophy of hatred in your schools
Trapped by your own vanity
Living in a world of insanity
You tremble at my God's Name
Shaking the World in it's frame
Tell me I'm fallacious, you lie
Your rules I don't live by
A world ruled by anxiety
Satan, get thee behind me
I'm free before the Cross
Salvation paid the ancient cost
You're puzzled by my defiance
You say it's all the science
Tell me it's time for silence
But my God is my reliance
And He's still dropping Giants
You'll never have my silence
I hear the topic of your Psalms
Hatred and Guns and bombs
Rock and roll, parties and get high
Laugh as the innocent all die
Oh don't you ever learn
Fiddle around as the world burns
I will not bend to your rules
A company of sinners, house of fools
Your logic fails before God's Light
Your science collapses before the right
Your house of cards falls down
Your lies burn to the ground
You're puzzled by my defiance
You say it's all the science
Tell me it's time for silence
But my God is my reliance
And He's still dropping Giants
You'll never have my silence
I reject your pathetic vanity
Nor do I accept your insanity
This is a collisium of fools
Trying to endorse your rules
But I stand redeemed and free
Satan, get thee behind me
AMEN

About this poem
Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him. It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. 1 Corinthians 1:26-30 more »
