Analysis of EIGHT-BALL IN THE CORNER POCKET
Barry Green Jr 1973 (Florida)
EIGHT-BALL IN THE CORNER POCKET
You're taking off like a bottle rocket
Too bad you didn't double check
You've got the Devil in your pocket
The Cross around your neck
I've got something I need to ask you
For whom are you gonna stand?
With all you're going through
It's sure to hit the fan
You can't serve two masters
One will make you hesitate
In a life always goin' faster
That alone could decide your fate
The Devil deals you a rotten card
Laughs at the game ahead
God, you think, this is so, so hard
I'd be better off dead
And the Cross awaits
Oh so silently
And the Cross awaits
Oh so earnestly
Saying...
When, Oh when, will you come to me?
Where, Oh where, are you going?
When, Oh when can I set you free
And start the Spirit flowing?
But into the night you run
Though you know it's getting late
The Game is almost done
And Ole' Devil is dealt a straight
You've fallen to your knees
And saved the tears you cried
There was no answer to your pleas
Now your hands are tied
It's time for you to make a choice
God can lift you from this mess
So you cry in your loudest voice
Believe in your heart, with your mouth confess
10,000 angels start to fly
Take you to the mountain side
Telling you the Lamb of God must die
You weep as the Son of Man was crucified
Then you're back in the Game
As the final hand is dealt
You've been standing in Jesus Name
Since the second that you knelt
The Devil lays his hand so all can see
There's no way to beat it, you're so unable
With a longing look back at Calvary
You lay the Cross on the Table
The Devil roars and gives back all he stole
Because of the Cross' victory, he can't stop it
The Cross is the checkmate; the ace in the hole
It's the eight ball in the corner pocket
AMEN
