Analysis of You'd Never Know
Even if I was in pain,
You would never know;
Because a smiling face,
Is all you'll ever be shown.
You wouldn't know of my pillow,
Being soaked from my tears;
Or how I'm afraid to sleep,
Afraid to face my fears.
You wouldn't know of the screams,
Or knuckles bruised on the ground;
Good cheer and happiness,
Is all I'll show when you're around.
You wouldn't know poor Loki,
Has tear soaked fur every night;
Or of the countless moments,
Spent staring at my knives.
You'd never hear complaint,
Never know I couldn't breathe;
All you'd see is love and joy,
When you looked at me.
I'll remain in your corner,
Shaking on my knees;
And when you turn around,
You'll only see me on my feet.
You'll never know how much I hurt,
Or what I'm going through;
Cause none of it matters,
If I can be here for you.
A rended soul torn to bits,
A heart ripped to shreds;
A body shaking in pain,
Even wishing I were dead.
These things you'll never know,
Because I'll hide them well;
I'll take them straight to my grave,
And they can burn with me in Hell..
I'll protect you from knowing,
That I'm about to fade;
Let you know that I'm ok,
Until I pass away.

About this poem
Originally, I wrote this piece to express the struggle of showing strength in the presence of pain, regardless of the kind of pain or the particular audience; it could be a man, expressing how it feels to have to be the rock in his world because everyone expects men to be strong and not carry on. Or it could be a lover, not wanting their partner to know the pain they feel, or even a parent who's trying to be strong in the eyes of their child. For me, when I wrote it, I was expressing myself as a lover, showing my strength to my partner to help her through her own struggles, despite the pain and struggles I dealt with within. She still hasn't read this, and she won't until it's published. more »
