Analysis of You.
Rianri Erasmus 2007 (Vredendal Western Cape)
You are your own lockscreen.
I don't know why that is.
Your whole "You" is built
from a personality quizz.
"Your extroverted, friendly and kind"
that's what people want to be.
Your just trying to convince yourself
that's only what people see.
Secretly, you hate the attention
and you don't like being mentioned.
Your cheeks hurt from smiling
and the self-hatred start piling.
#loveyourself
Does that apply to you ?
You create an image for others to enjoy
so they feel comfortable in their own skin too.
You can't just be "You"
because people don't want what's true.
You stick with "Confidence is key"
because you don't want people to really see.
Then again confidence can't be key
if people hate on you for trying to open the door.
At this point I'm just trying to be "Me"
I can't let my soul get that poor.
People will always have something to say
it is what it is in the end of the day.
Romaticize life and live for yourself
because pleasing others, isn't pleasing ourselves.

About this poem
People interpret poems how they want to and this one is no different. I wrote this poem because i made peace with the fact that society will always judge no matter what.
