Analysis of I Want to Know You Dad

Help me Lord to please understand how to know this man I call him Dad. I'm older now and too much time has passed but I'm still the little boy who needs his dad.
He would come home from work so late at night I could always tell when his mood wasn't right, so I would run to his car to ask Dad how was your day but my dad was a man without much to say.
Now it's not all his fault he was raised that way my heart bleeds for all the men who were raised that way. Lord, I pray that you change Dad's way, the old man I need some brighter days.
I saw my dad last night in my dreams I mistook years of his silence for years of his screams, now old dad could fix almost anything he just never fixed him nor me.
Growing up we lived the American Dream we were poorer than most but Dad kept us clean. When he came home from Nam he had PTSD he was a hard-working man with a family to feed.
Later I learned Dad could barely read but he worked his hands to the bone so I could succeed. Just a hug from Dad was all I needed. Dad, I hope I'm the man and son you raised me to be your grandfather now your grandson is three.
My dad was the epitome of perfect health now he ties his shoes and he is all out of breath. It pains his heart to ask for help his favorite quote I'll do it myself.
Dad, I'm living my life with no regrets i hope you know you are not by yourself. I hope this letter finds you in the best of health Happy Father's Day I love you to death!!!

About this poem

I wrote this poem for so many men who do not know their fathers or who don't have a relationship with their fathers. It pains me to see so many men including myself who have had to learn by trial and error what it means to be a man, father, or head of a household.

Samuel Jordan

I grew up not knowing my father, still to this day I do not know him. As fate would have it my mother, grandparents, and the community I lived in gave me all the love and support to nourish my soul and feed my imagination. I am a widower with two amazing kids who have taught me I do not have to be perfect as a dad but I must be present. more…
