Analysis of Birthday Bliss

When I was only but a kid,
I wished to blow candles everyday.
But now I'm older I'd appreciate a drink.
To drown in the misery of wishes unfulfilled.
Now I know why adults forget their birthdays
For a year tick-tocks like the weekdays,
And the mirror remarks "poor thee you're old'
With dreams forgotten, failure's foretold.
But far be it from me to forget the day I was born
Should I lack the why's to celebrate,
I'd drink in all the sadness and work the next year to be fun.
