Analysis of High School Reunion
Danielle McGee 1985 (Wisconsin)
I walk into the reunion
Where the music is loud
And the lights are bright
And the people are smiling
I see the faces of my past
Some familiar, some forgotten
Some changed, some unchanged
Some friendly, some hostile
I try to mingle and chat
But I feel so out of place
I don't belong here anymore
I don't have anything in common
I hear the stories of their lives
Some successful, some struggling
Some happy, some unhappy
Some proud, some humble
I compare myself to them
But I feel so inadequate
I don't measure up to them
I don't have anything to show
I leave the reunion early
Where the music is loud
And the lights are bright
And the people are smiling
I walk alone to my car
Where the silence is deafening
And the darkness is oppressive
And the loneliness is crushing
