Analysis of Now Or Never!
Hold it fast
and strong
that which you
see
now, or never,
for tomorrow is uncertain,
for tomorrow is ambiguous
vague
unpredictable.
Grab it fast
and strong
that which you have,
Now, or Never,
for
this might be your last chance,
your last opportunity;
Opportunity comes
only but once;
had I known
comes at last--
for fools;
Be no procrastinator.
Time is money
money runs after no man;
time is progress,
progress runs after no man.
I was walking leisurely
along that serene Ofeme Road,
that solitary road near Imo River,
suddenly my glance
caught a fine branch
distinct in itself
isolated like an outcast--
good for a walking stick
just suitable for my dad;
I could have earned his blessing and praise;
But a voice said to me: 'leave that fine branch alone
it is not running away;
come back later
for there is time!"
But when I came back later,
lo and behold,
that fine branch was gone!
gone!
gone !
gone !
forever!

About this poem
In life, delay is dangerous. As a PGDE student at UNN, Nsukka, a roommate who fought in the Nigerian Civil War, told us a chilling story. In the warfront, he was almost captured by the enemy, but what saved him was his quick action. Orlando heard an order: "Hands up!" Shouted by "ndi iro".He quickly opened fire, and that shot killed his would-be captor! 'ndi iro": enemy soldier: Igbo Language
