Analysis of A new season

As I seek asylum in my backyard,
a pink cloud forms over the dodgy fence my landlord keeps promising to replace
Evening approaches slower now that it is spring, and the sun stays around longer
Fall didn't feel as gentle on me as the month of April does now
I lay in the hammock you and I bought and imagine who you are now
if it's joy or jealousy that takes over when you think of me
This is the first of three springs without you
I know this because last year we made cobbler with the neighbor's fruit that hung over the wall
We went on and on about how perfect the peaches were
This year, I will quietly take pictures of the tree's blossoms in remembrance
soft but stoic, the pedals offer a contradiction
I think of the time it takes to grow, untamed and unpredictable
Velvet petals that never wilted, even with bad luck or bad weather
I look back here and see a xyst in the future, the peach tree surrounded by other fruit I will plant
Yellow lemons, ripe oranges, and grapefruit
And I will make a new dessert, and new memories with their zest
