Analysis of Fifty-third of Isaiah

Doug Blair 1951 (London)

Jews must address this
Their sainted prophet
Close to one of
Their Kings.
The righteous ones.
Saw that King die.
Devastated he was.
Til came the visions.
Wars, starvation, siege, exile.
Shame from many bad choices.
Imitating wicked neighbours.
Trusting in Egypt’s horses.
Not divine forces. (first 39 chapters)

But then came a Spokesman
Crying, Comfort Ye. Comfort Ye.
Word of appointed Deliverer.
Rescuer. Servant.
One who would undergird.
Grief absurd.
Woundings and piercings obscene.
Torturers mean.
All that the Jews might go free
Absolved totally.
And Jesus was just round the bend
That Guilty might mend.
Estrangement end.
With God’s Smile.
And uplift.
(He had been close.
All the while.)
