Analysis of White Cane Lesson

She was on the sidewalk tapping

In the noon hour press for lunch

And I almost missed her passage

My own problems hurt a bunch.

Really just some crude self pity.

As she smiled and carried on

And her age not reaching thirty

Gracious calm I looked upon.

All around a frantic cocktail

But her peace and pace displayed

That this sightless one had boldness

That her lifetime challenge made.

How I yearned to get up curb side

And to grasp her shoulders trim

And to say a word for Jesus

So that she might trust in Him.

There were stories of His kindness

And His ready power to heal.

I was shocked by these my urgings

I was moved by Love’s appeal.

But the light turned green so rudely

And my busy-list took wing.

I could only pray her blessing

As right then I heard her sing.

(Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the Law of Christ.)
