Analysis of Apprentice Angel

Douglas Blair 1951 (London)

You go join them boy

We're seeming short by one.

No time to roust that baritone

If we're to greet God's Son.

I know you missed most practices

But heart means more than that.

And you observed the Feast of Lights.

When Jewry knocked them flat.

Those dread foes downed Jerusalem.

But strains of Holy Light

Sustained the Temple eight full days

The candles burning bright.

And you burn too Young Troubador.

And you will do just fine.

To sing to shepherds, guiding verse.

That they the Babe should find.

Begone, sing now, and evermore

That Mankind has their King.

The years will show His Mission pure.

And remedy all things.
