Analysis of Workers whom you know

Anisha Praveen 2002 (Telaiya Dam - 825413, Hazaribagh, Jharkhand)

You know, who I am, right?
Then, why never bothered to see my plight.

You know, I needed you, right?
Then, why were you far from true in my sight?

An entertainer died, and you all cried.
But when I thought of committing suicide, why did you think, I lied?

Do you think it only takes from nine to five?
Experience it and you would see how hellish becomes your life.

They tore down our lives and it was reasonable,
But when I made a mistake, why was it questionable?

You saw Taj, and admired it.
What about me whose house is dimly lit?
Shahjahan was credited as Taj's creator,
Then why me, the labour was left as a mere creature?

I taught in the room, and you were keen to bring a change.
Now I ask you to rebel, then why do you refrain?

Your reputation matters, but about the lowly lives, you care not.
My dream shatters, but to raise questions, you dare not.

Is this the blind, deaf and dumb society, you wanted?
Where not only in dreams but in reality, people are haunted?

Let's change the course today before it's too late.
Because History remembers the deeds first than the dates.

Workers are not mere laborers, they are beings. Let's cherish it.
They are the foundation behind the nation. So our mindset, lets replenish it.

About this poem

This poem has been written from a workers'point of view. Different segments reflect the difficulties faced by them and the frustration it causes. The poem also shows how the society seems so insensitive towards their plight. The students who pledge to bring about a change, even they back out when the need comes. Hence, this poem summarises the feelings of labourers, corporate workers, teachers, farmers, and others.
