Analysis of Hands of time

Roberta Schwesinger 1986 (Michigan)

I wish I could turn back the hands of time,
So that you were here with me.
If only I wouldn't have been so dumb,
Then maybe you would still be here with me.
I wish I would have treated you better.
You gave me all I wanted,
And I took advantage of it.
I wish now that I wouldn't have taken advantage of you.
Why couldn't you have told me no?
Instead of letting me use you?
For now, I am full of guilt and remorse.
I never had the chance to tell you how much I loved you.
Now your gone and I'll never have the chance to tell you.
I wish I would have told you,
But now it's too late.
So, with guilt and a heavy heart I go on with my life.
