Analysis of A year ago today

I remember a year ago today you left this world and forever went away.
I wish you peace and love every day
Shedding tears while this I pray
I know the pain will never go away to my dismay
In my mind things I could have done differently continually replay
I wish I would have done more to save your life
Showered you with love to end your strife
Instead, I chose to focus on work
Letting you give into that which made you go berserk
Understanding you wanted the insidious feelings you had to no longer lurk
So down went the alcohol and bottle of pills
Leading to the phone call that gave me chills
As soon as I was told Jeannie was on the line
I got massive chills down my spine
Losing my ability to speak more than a faint whine
Thinking no, not my mother not mine
Though in my heart I knew it to be true
Picturing you ghostly white with a hint of blue
I begged the doctor to do something so you would make it through
But they told me there was nothing they could do
So, they turned off the machines and to heaven you flew
I hope you know I will always love you.

Love always and forever,
Your son Kirk

About this poem

On 10/18/22 it will have been one year since my mom took her life. I miss her every day and so I wrote this. If you know someone who suffers from mental illness do everything you can to help them, don't turn a blind eye.
