Analysis of Terrified!
Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)
So many have begun to mention,
They are among the ones...
Feeling mentally abused and terrified.
By a truth reducing,
Their fictioned to delude lives.
Much more than ghosts some say they see,
Coming uninvited into their homes.
After midnight.
Making attempts to scare and boo them away.
Yet stay.
Especially early in the morning.
Found to find them dressed in robes.
Wearing slippers and reading newspapers.
Demanding breakfast made.
With freshly brewed Columbian coffee.
And if not that to have them served?
Organically grown green herbal tea will do!
'9-1-1.
What is your emergency?'
'There is a family of ghosts.
Sitting in my kitchen.
Demanding breakfast to be made.
Freshly brewed Columbian coffee.
Or organically grown green herbal tea!'
'I see.
And...
Would they happen to be dressed,
In robes and slippers?
Reading today's newspaper?'
'How would I know?'
'When did they arrive?'
'It was well after midnight.
Uninvited.'
'Who was it that opened the door.
To let them inside your home?'
'Send the police! Send the police!'
'Calm down.
How about...bagels?
The everything bagels.
With veggie cream cheese?'
'Send the police, please.
The ghosts are now looking at me,
Impatiently.'
'I will.
However...
I'm telling you now,
The police on duty,
Are not into donuts.
Only everything bagels.
Spread with veggie cream cheese.
Is this an emergency or not?'
'Yes. Yes. Yes it is.'
'Then...
Just say you've got the stuff.
Lie and no one will know the difference.'
'I'm scared. I'm terrified. I can't do that!'
'Then guess what?'
'What?
Hello?
Hello.
HELLO?!'
