Analysis of good old days

the passing of time
what a cruel concept
I clasp my hands together
to hold onto the moment
but when I open them again
it's already gone

it feels like the clock
is stuck in high gear
hours turn to days
then to months
then to years

our children are growing
our hair turning grey
always chasing, never catching
the "good old days"

About this poem

This poem is a reflection on life— how each moment seems to pass us by before we even realize we are in it. This piece is especially personal to me as I’m watching my children grow up right before my eyes and recognizing that I myself am growing up too. My son was born with extreme health complications weighing only one pound at birth, so we did not think we would see a future with him. But now that he has miraculously overcome those struggles, we are watching him blossom into a smart, funny, loving little boy. He is two years old now but it feels like just yesterday we were praying by his bedside for him to make it to the next day. I hope you enjoy this submission, as it comes from the deepest parts of my heart.
