Analysis of At Least it’s no longer Sadness.

At least it’s no longer sadness.
That is not to say I feel nothing anymore,
because that would be dishonest.
I still wake up with much regret,
I still sleep with a lump in the chest,
A steady numbing emptiness,
When we don’t feel, is it progress?
Was I wicked? Is this ‘no rest’?
Questions abound, they’re so endless,
I feel so much, but in retrospect,
What a good run till it seemed hopeless,
I can’t pinpoint my deepest thoughts,
but at least it’s no longer sadness.

About this poem

My three year relationship ended two weeks ago. It was an unceremonious ending- a two minute phone call. I always knew it could happen one day, but I didn’t imagine it would play out the way it did. It ended, and I felt a barrage of emotions from the first day till the day I finally gathered the courage to put my thoughts into poetry. This is the result of it all. In as much as the poem begins by stating that I’m no longer sad, it’s a poem which mourns what we had, and what we could have had. I hope you all enjoy it.
