Analysis of it’s all society’s fault”
Lydie.elhn 2005 (Villeneuve d’ascq)
“It’s all society’s fault”
Usually people say that to victimise themselves and excuse their way of being.
Society is used as a tool, an excuse to get out of being called toxic.
Because why own up to your actions when you can just reject the fault on to someone else.
Someone that isn’t actually a person,
Which helps you not feel guilty for putting another human being in your place.
But this use of the term made the whole thing lose its point.
It’s meaning.
I think the expression has been changed over the course of people using it badly.
It’s not ALL society’s fault.
It’s more like “it’s because of society “
Our society that has been made by patriarchy
That has been pushed by racism
And ran by homophobia
It’s because of society that we think the way we do
We judge the way we do
And therefore we act the way we do
Society ruined our way of thinking to the point that we can’t have proper shameless thought
Society made us feel guilty about the way we think
Society made us feel bad about feeling bad
Society made us apologies for our way of speaking
Of eating
Of walking
Of dressing
Of growing
Of acting
Of breathing
So maybe it isn’t a cowardly excuse to use society after all
Maybe it is ALL society’s fault
Maybe the way we grew along side all those judgement and expectation made us the people that we are
Actually not maybe but surely it did
The way we speak was made out of the mood shown to us at our birth
Same for the way we act
The way we treat people had to come from us
But because of how it was shamed to show feelings
We couldn’t love properly
We couldn’t stop playing games
So many questions would come to mind as soon as you see a connection forming
Really any kind of connection
Wether it be platonic or not
It was like the Bible
Thy shall not show thou emotion
Thy shall not say anything without being sure thy feelings is reciprocated
Thy shall not love
All of those rules and expectations
Made us cold
Even if you don’t abide to them
Someone will
And therefore you will be hurt by them
Then closing yourself
Body and soul
To the whole of the world
Because why risk doing it a second time
And if you do get into something else
You’ll have to abide by the rules this time
Either the bride or the bridesmaid
It’s your choice at the end
So you choose bride like so many
But being a bride mean hurting people
And when apologies need to come
You say
“It’s all society’s fault”
And you then sound so toxic
But if you look deep enough
You’re actually right
But people don’t look deep at all
It’s surely all society’s fault.
