Analysis of Night Owl

Richard Groff 1957 (Pottstown, Pa.)

Iron sharpens iron
But it does not sharpen lead
And all the lies that you believe
Just prove that you’re still dead

Wake up O sleeper, come to life
And open up your eyes
I cannot force you to believe
But I won’t tell you lies

I want you to remember
From what height you have fallen
Before you’re crying out to God
As your last breath you’re drawing
