Analysis of what can be said now

it shouldn’t be all too foreign for me
in how the pressure of elegant impressions
must be first coordinated into common tones:
the unspoken parlance of right socializations

just as it was then
to sneak subtexts and packaged flowers
in such sophomoric innocence
grandly excusing the height of chivalry
as performance art of high school prom fare
and to justify all the stops
in flirt-texting and asking out
with so little mileage over intent
born out of fanning movies as real milestones

the times relished in love smacking and crushing were always no different
they all carried the same rhythm
the same grainy realism
that it's too good to be true
how the lottery of patterns has meant
every winning at dances bars and parties
to funnel the wrinkly decades
all down to mere infinitesimal specky words
in so fractional chances that feel utterly absurd

they came from what could be any moment
in any day for any purpose
just as regularly stripped utterances are to be
devices translating into a routine mechanic
to move a person to a place to a person
and amending all available courses on the way
to then feel the desires as desires are to be

the difference to me from the past circularities
is in these unexplained feelings
foreign in their emotive language
to articulate even why such overwhelming
stock of fueling biochemistry is applicably
the only logic of being
in this kind of love to this kind of person
when this heart in me happens
to render futile any verbiage
in my way to strap these arms across
and openly shelter softness
when what i feel relates to no experiment
within dating culture of hinges and tinders
psychologizing means to behaviors to means
no unwritten mediation from a social contract
to play the game of value-laden sums
in constructing the right moments additively

it is in frailness of a pale warmth in selves
to which an algorithmic analysis
cannot objectify
the experience to blink with those eyes
that raptures a weary soul in me
and i see you
in me as can be in you
just as you came again so tenderly

so that is why that is why that is why

what i love can only be said
for now
for that’s just as simple as it gets
until it can finally

About this poem

In one sense, this poem represents an innocent turning point from heartbreak to a renewal of love. In another, it's meant to capture the absurd contingency of feelings and words, which exemplifies the precious yet small wonder of love.
