Analysis of A Ruminating Mind

Incomparable...
These feelings I convey within each parable...
can damage you...

Left broken and torn.

Inner peace is killed by the savage who ravages...

My conscience tries to find a way to pass through the pain but with every thought, I am trampled and can't stand to the same.

How can I withstand the onslaught of assault on my psyche?

Despite my, trying hard so that the world will like me.

Emotions torment from feelings that lie dormant.

Demons that group to fight me.

I'm lost in my own mind, my mind's lost inside me.

Corridors and narrow passageways make up the cerebral map.

Sleep stained with nightmares as dark as pitch black.

Gorges, canyons, and deep dark chasms open up to swallow me before I could even fathom, how deep I start to fall, my heart is a spasm.

Coursing through my veins, cold, ice, lifeless poison.

Shortening my life, demons, devils, screams, and noises.

What have I become? Rum burnt, whiskey, Brandy...

Where have I gone wrong? I'd listen beyond gladly...

One must overcome before he comes to be happy,.

So far none exists for I am now in the abyss and know I'm but a piece, a piece no puzzle fits.

My innocence is why these devils choose to pursue me and they use me, for under them I'm weak of no faith.

My soul rests never, my fate is of a wraith.

Stalking Earth aimless, no purpose, no escape.

In purgatory, searching further for me would be pointless.

I annoint this, pain in me a prisons executioner.

About this poem

I was 24 years old when I wrote this poem and utterly conflicted in life. Already one month into a 1-year sentence at a county jail in New Jersey I thought life was over and at any minute I could be dead. My 2 and 3-year-old son and daughter were constantly on my mind and every moment without them or wondering of them was a brutal grief to bare. This poem is one of many that reflects the turmoil of that time.
