Analysis of A FATHER BEGS FOR HIS SON'S LOVE...
There is no happiness.
And you used to love
your Dad so much.
We shared an immense joy.
You can't ignore me.
If you continue
along this path,
you will be filled
with so much guilt
that you will hate yourself,
but it will be too late
There will be
no more Daddy.
I call you;
the cell doesn't ring.
You can't block me.
I am you.
How can you be so cruel?
How can you sleep at night
knowing I am suffering?
There are times,
right now for instance,
that I am barely able
to stay sane.
I hold my breath
and wait for the pain
to pass.
You don't understand
that your karma
won't be as forgiving
as Pops.
Remember the advice
I recall reading
and relaying to you:
If you don't forgive,
you will never be forgiven.
I have never loved anyone
more than you.
You were my baby;
I was an elderly man.
I taught you everything.
I gave you everything.
And I never asked
for anything.
Nothing!
So many memories.
I could allow myself
to become angry,
but I won't.
Instead, I'll say,
"I love you."

About this poem
There is nothing confusing about the sentiments that a father feels for his son who has abandoned him. I like Pablo Neruda's Ode style.
