Analysis of Obedience, not Sacrifice
Richard Newton Sherrer 1951 (Easton)
Hear me, O Heaven, and give ear,
O earth for the Lord has spoken;
I have reared and brought up in fear,
The children rebelled and broken.
The ox is knowing its owner,
And the donkey its master’s crib;
But does not know of the loner,
Not understanding of the lib.
People full of iniquity,
And offspring of evildoers;
With immoral activity,
Have been corrupted pursuers.
For they have forsaken the Lord,
And have despised the Holy One;
Allowed His Word to be ignored,
Utterly estranged that was done.
So why will you still be struck down,
As you continue to rebel;
A sick head wearing a dark crown,
That you had purchased down in hell.
From the foot even to the head,
There is no soundness found in it;
Bruises and sores Satan has fed,
Softened with oil for merit.
For your country lies desolate,
Your cities are burned with fire;
Keeping your eyes and your ears shut,
Upholding earthly desires.
Foreigners devour your land,
Their presence will coup d'état rule;
Oppression caused by their demand,
Their persecution will be cruel.
As your daughter left on the street,
A harlot in the besieged city;
To become a sensual treat,
That nobody will take pity.
