Analysis of My grandson Jack

L D Bossons 1946 (Pontefract)

MY GRANDSON JACK aged 5

Watching our Jack while at play, how amusing is his day,
Note the order of his mindful thoughts, of toy cars, I’ve just bought.
The way in which he does construct, an imagination of a child’s look,
Seeing and believing that the cars, will take him to Places ever so far.

Travelling along upon the floor, at speeds so fast till they hit the door,
Crash, bang the sound’s they make, fantastic he says, isn’t it great.
His excitement now knows no end, making noises I don’t comprehend,
With the sound of vroom and of zoom, the cars have now cross room.

When they fly through the air, I am so amazed has I just stare?
What was that? Was my remark. Jack says he a transformer, now a dart.
Oh I said I didn’t know, when buying cars, they were something to throw.
Granddad he says, they’re just the best. Um I’ve noticed seeing his zest.

How amazed were my thoughts, to these object’s I’d just bought,
Bewilder and bedazzled seeing a toy, produce such emotion filled with joy.
I tell him, Jack they’re toy cars, to play with that’s all they are.
Not a dart, transformer or the like, they are but simple toys like a ball or a kite.

Looking vacant with a puzzled stare, he holds my hand with so much care,
Granddad he says, don’t you know, I’m playing and anything can go.
Well I just looked with thoughts abound, listening to a child with excited sound.
So what could I say, he’d said it all, as the car’s flew again hitting the wall.

…..Grandma Came into the room, looking with a distinctive gloom,
Jack she frowned, put the cars away! It time go outside and play.
But grandma I’m having so much fun, yes she say’s till damage is done,
So out trots Jack, lip touching the floor, dragging his feet muttering much more.

…………..As adults we seem to forget, the innocents with all its effect,
Of children playing in a world of their own, now that we are all fully grown.
Our lives but memories that seem so short, and time a lot less than we, thought.
So give your child, all the time they need, for as children, they’re not much more, than a seed.
