Analysis of Be seen
David Linsday 1986 (Long beach)
Too many people, kids included
Following the bad examples
Of the convoluted
Told if they just embraced all that's wrong
Soon they too will belong.
Trying so hard to try and stand out
Talking over each other
You can't hear yourself shout
Trapped in a cycle, caused by mass media
Clamoring for clout in the hysteria
Looking to be validated, they're always faded, chips on their shoulders, always jaded.
Obsessed with excess, and insta-fame
Looking to misplace blame
Wearing smiling masks to hide their shame.
Hard to tell their teardrops from the rain
The wrong people are idolized
While they themselves are ostracized
Self deprecating, they're always self medicating
Sad beyond words, all they want is to be heard
Feeling as though they've lost their voice
They also fear their loss of choice.
Realize you're enough, without the trends
And bring this lunacy to an end

About this poem
In the quest to be seen and stand out, people look to the wrong examples. As a result, the ones they look to to be seen, end up just making them part of the crowd they tried to distance themselves from.
