Analysis of Tested

Rita Baez(Farmer) 1983 (Arkansas)

I'm so sorry I forgot you
Let me catch you up to speed
I've been tested like the ends of a
Weathered flag that's by the sea.
Spirits have been up and they have been down. But I always manage to dust myself off
Standing tall and above the ground.
Experiencing the worst,
Fists of fury and words of scorn.
Producing excellence and strength
Into a new world I have been born.
These waters have been tested
Over and over, again and again.
It's gonna take much more than that
To make this woman break or bend.
If you ever try to confront me
Please keep this all in mind
I may be pleasant and nice
But when pushed I am far from kind.
I have been tested, you see...
Beaten and taken, used and abused.
Give it your best shot buddy
You'll find I'll be nothing short of amused.
What you will throw at me
Pales in comparison to what I have endured. Although it wasn't all for nothing.
My strength and resilience have been ensured.
I will always come out on top
Through the thickest and the thin.
I will always keep on fighting
Until my last breath at the very end.
