The Conservative Party Creed

*The following words are taken from a leaked Conservative Party document, believed to be a proposal for a new Conservative party creed.

Go clamorously amid the noise and haste,
and remember to speak up in silence.
As far as...

An Unexpected Guest

I call on you from when you first could speak
To brush your hair and “Mind your Ps and Qs”.
With shirt tucked in and tie set straight,
Diverting wild winds of youth,
I cast the mould in childhood to make a Man of you.

Together with...

Some people will see it like that. I prefer to say 'timeless'

This was one of my favourite poems from the contest, perfectly put. I love that this is an unconventional love poem which captures ordinary events with great humour and a sense of adventure waiting to be discovered. Your Lady seems like a most formidable one!

Such a thought provoking title and poem I wish all our politicians would read and heed. America and Britain are supporting homicide by saying nothing or even profiting from supplying weapons which kill the innocent. It is shameful.

A gorgeous description of the sunset. My favourite line is "Her robes rippled on the waves behind her".

I don't quite get it - did the homeless man get invited into church in the end?

I enjoyed the whimsy of this poem. It reminded me of Lewis Carroll and Edward Lear.

A worthy winner. This and The Summer Lady were the two poems which stood out the most to me. An exquisite and heartachingly beautiful poem which truly moves and astonishes.

I appreciate your delightful insightful comment and your vote. I find more subtle satire which draws you into the ludicrousness of the situation to be far more effective than more popular satire which attempts to bludgeon you over the head with its views - even if such nuance inevitably ends up going over some people's heads.

And how this poem didn't place is another mystery to me.

An exquisite poem full of beauty and longing, crafted with gorgeous imagery and lyrical rhythm. It reminded me of the narrative poems The Lady of Shalott and The Highwayman:
White her raiment, silver-fit,
Crystals with a twinkling lit,
Light and sweet her song did flit,
Upon the languid air....

...His pistol butts a-twinkle,
His rapier hilt a-twinkle, under the jewelled sky.

How magical and strange is this thing called desire! What a masterful poem.

This was a touching read with feelings many can relate to. I like how you began the verses 'you were a vision'. My favourite lines are 'you were a vision in the setting dusk' - very poetic, and 'you were my delusion, my sanity' - what a beautiful paradox.
