One Heart

Ever since the day we met
Thoughts of more not far away
Dreaming every dream come true
Love finds a way

I’m the mast and you’re the sail
With love as the wind we can sail around the world

There was a time, a time before time itself
When...

It was, or is. Quite some time ago I offered to write and perform a song for my youngest sister for her wedding. I did and I did (vocal and piano). The line you're referring to was the end of the bridge before swelling into the chorus. Over the years I realized how much I subconsciously cribbed from both "Lost In Love" by Air Supply (chords) and "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" by Elton John/Bernie Taupin (song structure and phrasing). The only changes to the lyrics were switching from third-person to first-person before sharing here on Poetry.com. Thanks for taking a gander, Sym, and taking the time to comment.

"Scratches on scratches"; I like that, Reil. We all should create for and as ourselves. How can we do otherwise? Except maybe to write for others as in carrying the hope of sharing experience, meaning, emotion, effect, etc. You know what throws me? All the punctuation -- periods everywhere! I grew up reading album covers. I simply don't remember seeing so many periods...

Absolutely, it's all right. I'm guessing the poem, Conversation, is the one of yours you also sent. Very, very good. All the best!

Thanks D! Would you mind re-posting your reply in the comments for the poem itself? Lest the main page be overwhelmed with wherever our discussion of the essence of "is"-ness takes us, :-)

And rhythm. Some poems are gently meandering streams and others get you bouncing to a beat.

I am a life-long lover of language, but new to/at poetry. Is anyone interested in sharing their thoughts on the effective use of capitalization, punctuation, spelling, cliches and/or line-spacing in poetry? I am in awe of what everyone here is writing and sharing... And I literally had no idea there are so many poetic forms...

I'm quite certain that the contest is open only to those who submitted entries. Consider if this was not the case: an entrant could have friends 'storm the castle' and vote for that friend's entry. The ways one might game the system were indeed considered.

I did enter and am so enjoying reading all the entries. Wow, is an understatement. My hope is that the entries are made available for all to see after January's contest has concluded. Some great stuff.
