    Walt had observant eyes for enlightening and strong hands for roughing it in the wild. Americans see much of the pioneer spirit. But let me remind that the pioneer spirit manifested large doses of trust in God (travel, safety, illness, harvest). Walt Whitman did NOT share that trust. A philosopher in the bush. Not a prophet or worshipper…Douglas Blair
