Coffee with Pops

you're old enough to be
my papa's son
over that monday morning
cup of coffee, cups of coffee
you call him "Pops"
this hulk, this bear of a man
after 25 years of holding the fort
through lipgloss and ballet recitals
and showtunes and all-encompassing PMS
with all of its moon-doting,
x-chromosome flouting paraphenalia...
after 25 years with only the cat
(who,to add insult to injury,we "sterilized"
anyway) I think he takes no small enjoyment
from the every now and then
quick y-chromosome fix
that gives a little balance
those helter-skelter monday mornings
like a good cup of coffee
