Facfbook friends

I received a request from a lady
Who told me that her name was Ruth
And she'd like to become my e.friend
I assumed she was telling the truth.

She sent me a snap in her scanties
A memory of salad days past
And the way she'd suspended her stockings
Caused my middle aged heart to beat fast.

It seems she was very conversant
With a whole lot of Parry-Booth verse
Which she shared with a number of colleagues
In the hospital where she was a nurse.

I must admit that I was quite flattered
And I'm pretty sure that I had impressed her
When I sent her a "Quite recent photo of me"
(T'was a young rugger player from Leicester).

Our new "Facebook Friendship" soon flourished
I told her some pretty tall tales
All the girls in her unit were anxious to meet
Her sexy young poet from Wales.

Each day she would type me a message or two
And daily I'd try to reply
It was obvious that she was smitten
And that brought a tear to my eye.

Our electronic correspondence
Continued until the next fall
When a message from Ruth marked "URGENT"
Said that she must finish it all.

She admitted that the photo she'd sent me
Was top side of twenty years old
And her fine brunette tresses displayed there
Were now grey (But coloured old gold).

She hoped that in time I'd forgive her
'Cos she still thought my verses divine
I smiled as I sent her best wishes
From an old sod who's now eighty-nine.
