As Like A Tree
From childhood until my youth
I played with my friends
Under the shadow of a neem tree
Alongside the main road of the city
Right, left and its front side
The beautiful houses
I also heard from my family
And peoples that
The tree was nearly
Hundred years old,
Having a history of children
And peoples, who played
And rested under its shadow
In all seasons
Mostly in spring and summer,
When it was full
With its green leaves
And yellow mini size fruit
As time passed away; I grew up
I studied, worked, travelled,
And enjoyed the world
I noticed
Other children played the same;
As I did in my childhood
The time came, when the tree
Went dry, no more leaves
The authorities decided to cut
And pull that out, for a new tree
The breathing history
Became silenced and closed
I felt skin wrinkles upon my face
And the entire body, with a few
Grey hairs on my head
I thought; people will do the same
With me as well
Since I became inactive
And fruitless, use of nothing.
